A new step towards internationalization with the support of Rivean Capital
Thanks to Ubike's predominantly French-speaking team, Green Mobility Holding meets customers' needs in multilingual Belgium
Munich/Brussels, July 24, 2024. Green Mobility Holding (GMH), one of Europe's leading providers of technology-based (electric) bicycle leasing, is continuing its international expansion by acquiring Ubike, one of the market leaders in Belgium.
Founded in 2016, Ubike's mission is to make cycling more accessible and attractive for corporate employees. Through technological innovations and a strong commitment to sustainability, Ubike helps companies and individuals switch to a greener and healthier mode of transport. Ubike emphasizes user-friendliness of its tools and services, and easy access to bikes. The company's objective is to continuously improve its bike leasing and electric bike offering.
GMH had already acquired o2o Bicycle Leasing, a leading Belgian player based in Ghent. The company focuses on making bike leasing accessible through smart digital integrations and processes, drawing on an extensive in-house technology team.
"The acquisition of Ubike is an important step in strengthening our presence in Belgium," said Maximilian Acht, CEO of Green Mobility Holding. "We will leverage synergies by structuring the commercial focus of both companies and using Ubike's predominantly French-speaking team and Brussels office to strengthen GMH's position in the Walloon region."
"With GMH and o2o, we have found ideal partners to further develop our business in Belgium and capture the strong market growth more intensively," said Michel Lagasse, founder and CEO of Ubike. "We share the common goal of promoting employee mobility through affordable and easily accessible leasing offers, while reducing the ecological footprint of home-to-work journeys. Moreover, as we grow, we will remain committed to preserving our unique Belgian identity - our 'Belgitude' - while ensuring that our growth never compromises the local values and cultural heritage that define us."
"When we invested in GMH a year ago, we announced that we would support the company's future growth in Germany and Europe with capital and strategic know-how. With the acquisition of o2o Bicycle Leasing and Ubike in Belgium, the first steps on this path have been taken", said Matthias Wilcken, Senior Partner at Rivean Capital.
Michel Lagasse and the rest of the Ubike management team will remain on board after the acquisition. Michel Lagasse will reinvest part of the proceeds of his sale in GMH, thus becoming a GMH shareholder.
